A popular community initiative helping to boost social connectedness and keep people active in Southampton is continuing to thrive thanks to an ongoing partnership and support from charity volunteers (June 2026).
The bowls sessions – a joint Communicare, Atherley Bowling Club and Unpaid Carers initiative – launched last year as a funded, monthly activity, bringing people together on the last Thursday of each month.
Although the initial funding ended in October 2025, Atherley Bowling Club has continued to run the sessions.
Participants of all ages can now attend for a £2 pay-as-you-go fee, which includes a cup of tea or coffee, or they can take advantage of low-cost membership, offering free bowling and refreshments, during the last Thursday of the month sessions, as well as access to the club at other times.
